Spearheaded by Dr. McVane, in April the Libertas Center for Human Rights, the Mt. Sinai Human Rights Program, and the Mt. Sinai Dept. of Emergency Medicine hosted a free screening of Human Flow – a must-see, powerful documentary and heartbreaking exploration of the global refugee crisis, and live webcast Q&A with director, artist, and activist Ai Weiwei. Captured over the course of a year in 23 countries, the film follows a chain of urgent stories that stretches through Afghanistan, Greece, Iraq, Kenya, Mexico, Turkey and beyond. It was attended by over 50 members of the Mt. Sinai community.

In April Dr. Fernando was nominated by her peers for Elmhurst Hospital’s Elmmy Award for exceptional service and care to patients and fellow physicians.
